We would love to share with you what has been happening in school this week. Please read below to find out what each year group has been learning .....
Nursery:
This week the children have been listening to the story ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell. This has helped to reinforce the learning of the language of size and also ordering the owl babies from biggest to smallest or smallest to biggest. In Maths, we have been learning how to match two items that are the same. We have used socks to support this activity and, now the children are changing into their wellies every day, they are also having lots of fun trying to match the shoes up when they come back inside! 24 pairs of shoes can be quite a challenge!
We have been very creative making owls with paper plates and drawing owls with circles and semicircles
Reception:
This week Reception had a special visitor! Mr Penguin was spotted around school and then ended up in our classroom asking for our help to get back home! The children have had lots of fun finding out about where penguins live and testing materials to find out which material will be best for building our boats. We have also been thinking about the type of clothes we would need to pack on our trip!
Year 1:
This week we have been looking at our new class text, 'Leaf', where we have explored the vocabulary and the meaning. We used actions to retell the story and created a story map to support it. We have started to rehearse our Christmas performance by practising the songs in class whilst adding actions to it. In RE, we have learnt the 'Glory Be' prayer and spoke about how it makes us feel.
Year 2:
It is very exciting in the KS1 concourse this week as we are preparing for our Christmas performance. Year 2 have been working hard practising their lines, planning their costumes and singing the songs! We cannot wait to perform it to you in a few weeks' time! We are continuing to enjoy our Great Fire of London topic, exploring what life was like in 1666, as well as continue our English work on 'Boxton' and 'Vlad the Flea'. Both classes are really enjoying our book 'Gorilla' in Reading too and have been predicting what will happen next. In RE, we have looked at Jesus' disciples and then thought about how we could be good disciples of today.
Year 3:
In Year 3 this week we have been working on our column addition and subtraction skills in Maths. In English, we are writing character descriptions and have continued to read 'The Extraordinary Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore'. We have continued our Topic on the History of Artists by learning all about the Space Race. We have also enjoyed and listened to the music of The Beatles as part of this. In PE, we have continued to work on our hockey and handball skills.
Year 4:
This week we have continued with our topic of World War 1. We enjoyed finding out about how rationing worked and how much butter, sugar and cheese each person was rationed to per week. We have moved onto multiplication and division in maths, and we have been looking at the features of a news report in English. During RE, we have started our Advent unit, and we have been exploring why the Liturgical colour for Advent is purple.
Year 5:
This week, in Maths, Year 5 have been using place value to multiply and divide by multiples of 10/100/1000. We have also enjoyed journaling about our learning and the methods we have learnt. In English, we explored 'slow writing' which develops quality over quantity. We then studied newspaper reports and have begun studying their features and content. In Reading, we have explored vocabulary choices and how authors give us clues about different characters. In RE, we learned about the Sacrament of the Sick. In PE, we have been working on shot accuracy, passing and moving in basketball.
Year 6:
This week we have had our first Confirmation Meeting and some of us are looking forward to the journey of preparing to receive the sacrament. In English, we have been writing our own Windrush poems. In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting fractions. In RE, we have looked at the meaning of 'vocation' and, in Science, we have classified animals. In PE, we performed the 'Haka' and in History, we looked once more at events that happened after WW2.
