We would love to share with you what has been happening in school this week. Please read below to find out what each year group has been learning .....
Nursery:
This week the children have continued to learn about Advent as we light the second candle. We have been practising the Christmas Nativity song, as well as learning about the nativity story. In Maths, we have been learning about sorting and the different ways we can sort objects into groups, e.g. by their colour, shape and size.
Reception:
This week Reception have really enjoyed showcasing their singing and dancing skills to parents in our Christmas Nativity. We are super proud of all the children for how confidently they have performed. In RE, we have been talking about the second candle of Advent and have enjoyed our daily prayer sessions. You may have noticed some new equipment being built in our outdoor area, we are so excited about these new additions and can't wait to start using them.
Year 1:
This week we have been having lots of fun performing our Nativity after weeks of practising our songs and actions! In English, we have been thinking about how to ask questions and, in RE, we have been continuing to think about the ways we can prepare for Christmas during Advent.
Year 2:
It's showtime! We have had our Nativity performances this week, and we couldn't be prouder of our little stars! The children performed for the whole school on Monday, with three subsequent performances for parents afterwards. They performed brilliantly, and it was a real heart-warming event which made us all think about the true meaning of Christmas. We have been learning about Zecheriah and Elizabeth in RE and placed their story on a story map. We have started learning Shape in Maths and have finished our hot task in English, which was a non-chronological report about the Great Fire of London. Thank you again for your support at home with costumes and learning lines!
Year 3:
What an exciting week we have had in Year 3! On Wednesday, the children were given tickets to board the Polar Express. They entered the waiting room to hang up their bags and then boarded the train and were served hot chocolate and biscuits. This was the hook that inspired the children to produce some excellent descriptive paragraphs with a little help from the book. In Maths, we have continued our work on multiplication and division. This week we have recapped on the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables, so keep on practising those at home please. We have also been busy singing our carols ready for singing in the town on Monday, we look forward to seeing you all there.
Year 4:
What a scrumptious Christmas dinner we shared this week! During Maths, we continued our work on our times tables. We have further explored 12s, 1s and 0s this week. It would be really helpful to be practising at home and using www.timestables.co.uk too. The Christmas Truce in 1914 has inspired our English this week. We have written a narrative about the events using our descriptive skills. Also, we evaluated our work influenced by Georgia O'Keefe in art and reflected on what improvements could be made and what successes we had using similar techniques to O'Keefe. We were lucky enough to have a workshop with Action for Children which helped us learn more about how we can look after our mental health, and we learnt some techniques to help us when we may be feeling anxious.
Year 5:
This week, in Maths, we have been adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. We have used a fractions wall to help us understand the importance of converting to have the same denominator. In English, we have been writing in a journalistic style about the Blitz and the damage it caused in UK towns and cities. In Reading, we have continued to analyse and interpret vocabulary choices in our book - 'The Nowhere Emporium'. In Science, we have studied the life cycles of different mammals, including those who lay eggs! In RE, we have learnt about the Annunciation of the Birth of John the Baptist, and we analysed the Canticle of Zechariah and what it tells us about God, Jesus and John. In Art, we completed our Blitz-inspired artwork and the results were spectacular - look out for pictures on our social media channels. We have continued our preparation for next week's carol service by doing some brilliant singing.
Year 6:
This week we have been multiplying and dividing fractions in Maths. In English, we are continuing with our 'Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' writing. In Reading, we are continuing to look at the poem 'The Raven' and, in Science, we are studying micro-organisms. In RE, we have looked at the vocabulary of Advent and have begun to write our own Advent carol. In History, we have looked at the fashion and music after World War 2.
