Outdoor Learning

At St Modwen’s Catholic Primary School, outdoor learning is enriched through a dedicated Forest School approach that encourages children to explore, investigate, and grow in a natural environment. Sessions take place in a carefully developed outdoor woodland-style area where pupils are given opportunities to engage in hands-on experiences such as den building, tool use under supervision, wildlife observation, and natural crafts. These activities are designed to spark curiosity, promote problem-solving, and deepen children’s understanding of the world around them, all while nurturing a sense of responsibility for the environment.

The Forest School ethos at St Modwen’s also supports children’s personal development by fostering independence, resilience, and collaboration. Through regular outdoor sessions, pupils learn to take managed risks, work together to overcome challenges, and reflect on their learning in a calm and natural setting. This approach not only enhances their physical well-being but also strengthens confidence and self-esteem, ensuring that outdoor learning becomes an integral and valued part of their educational journey.
